I read some old threads on this, but haven't seen any recent information. I have a 7600 SE that I purchased before the free upgrade cutoff, and am planning to upgrade to Lion. I refuse to pay Lasersoft $80 for SE plus because the version they sold me in 2011 was written for an ancient Power PC (!!!!!!!!!), and they see that as an opportunity to gouge...

So, two questions:

1. Any way to run Silverfast on Lion without having to run Parallels every time I want to scan?

2. I am a long time user of Vuescan Pro, but haven't done much with the Plustek with it after my initial test showed better results with the SF. Any tips to get optimal results with this scanner and Vuescan. Multi-Exposure is a must, as I need maximum tonal range, and I scan in 16-bit raw-ish, with all correction done in PS.

Thanks!

This has been discussed a number of times here: install Silverfast trial version, then install Vuescan. Vuescan will use drivers shipped with SF.

I use Vuescan and Plustek all the time. Always multi-scan to get everything out of the negative, save as RAW and invert the photo in post process. More lately I've heard that using the green channel only for BW would result in sharper scans, but I'm yet to test this.

I'm interested in what the pros and cons are as well. I have just started and the outdated software (SE Plus V6.6) that was bundled with the PlusTek won't work on Lion.
So I try the V8 and it works wonderfully, but alas how do you register the early version if you cannot load the software. Catch 22. Posting on the forums is in progress, but as I am new they want to moderate my post, fair enough. Contacting them via e mail though is equally difficult, maybe I am just impatient.
If this doesn't work out, I too am off to Vuescan to try it.
