Using USB HDs w Time Machine w an Apple Airport Extreme

I'm thinking of using Apple's Time Machine software to do automatic back-ups of multiple household laptops. What I think I can do is attach them to my Apple Airport Extreme WiFi router through a USB Hub, set the software to recognize the drives and then everything is auto-magical.

Or is it? Is anyone here doing this and do you have any comments or cautions? Thanks
