Using Voigtländer Kontur 6x9 finder for 35mm?

I have a Voigtländer Kontur finder for 6x9, and since 6x9 has the same aspect ratio as 24x36, I should be able to use it with a Kodak Retina, right? Are there reasons to why it wouldn't work?

There is a version of the Kontur for 24x36, but I suspect the only difference from the 6x9 one is that the latter has markings for half-frame (6x4,5).

Makes sense, though the 6x9 will be true normal while the 24x36 will be 50mm instead of 43mm. So I would expect yours to be a little wider. I don't really know, though.

Good point. I will try it, because the finders on many old cameras are squinty, to say the least, and I wear glasses. I may get a 24x36 Kontur in the future.

I don't have both finders (just the 24x36), but would think the field of view might be different. It is definitely a must have when shooting a Vito B 1st Ver.

I wonder what the camera designers were thinking when they made the finders in these cameras. The worst one I ever had was a post-war Certo Dollina. The finder was hopeless to use, and the camera didn't even have an accessory shoe for a finder. 🙄

Put a ground glass or frosted tape across the film gate on your Retina, put the shutter on B or T, and compare the view with the external viewfinder to see how close they are.
