UV/IR Filter

The B&W filters are very good, I've been using four of them along with Leica, Heliopan, Canon, and Tiffen IR cut filters.

This is with a Nikkor 10.5cm F2.5 using a 52mm Tiffen "Hot Mirror" filter that cost $10, new-old-stock.

This is with the 48mm Canon Hot Mirror filter on the Canon 50/1.4 RF lens. This filter was $20, used on Ebay.

I'm thinking a thread on sample images with Different IR cut filters would be interesting. So far the cheapest one I bought was a Heliopan 49mm IR cut filter for $5. That was from Popflash. It is spotless (and scratchless).

Hi Brian,

If the sky is blue, and the wheat is white. What colors would you expect to see without your filters??

The color would be about the same with these images. The spectral content is fairly uniform, Infrared and Visible content about the same. The Infrared content would blur the image, from chromatic dispersion. I tested a J-3 yesterday without a filter, and the Green Chlorophyll in a pine tree blurred the image. Next time I walk around, I'll bring the modified Coolpix 950.

Thanks for the sample images. B+W is quite expensive so is it worth saving the money to buy less expensive filters?
