I was going to lift mine of the base board to have a look how it was wired, but found this site which has some nice pictures : http://www.bonavolta.ch/hobby/en/photo/v35.htm#Wiring
The wiring is as simple as it can be and there are no clever electronics in there.
( Just incase you decide to sue me: firstly unplug from the mains - i.e. nothing to be plugged into the base unit. )
If you have a ohm meter, I get 27 ohms across the primary and less than 1 across the secondary/bulb.
Looks like a unremarkable transformer - you could get a spare from farnell.com or RSWWW.com. Yours could also be rewound if you found someone or had the patience.
If that fails - the website also shows how to wire up an external AC or DC 12V >6.25A supply.

Thanks for the info. It problem appeared to be some burned wires and contacts near the lamp. With the helpful suggestions of a couple of folks over at the Leica (film) forum I fixed it and the enlarger works perfectly now.
