V600 and first scans

I have in the past year or so, collected a large quantity of developed MF negs and no way to scan them . I finally had taken all I could stand and picked up a V600. Was given some early birthday money so I thought what the heck.
Scanner came in on Friday, scanned these Saturday morning. Using the Epson Software and default settings except for DPI these were all done at a low of 1200 DPI good enough for testing and web.

1st, are shots from Tiger shoots that I have run for the past 7 going on 8 years .

A few more focus was off on a few of these, not scanner focus but my bad eyes. But it should give some idea of how the scanner handles colors with Epson software.

I too finally broke down and bought a V600, and I couldn't be happier with it.
Of course,I've got quite a few 4x5's and I'm dreaming of the V750. And at that price it'll remain a dream.

I purchased a 1/8 piece of plastic 9x3-3/8 inches. I use it to butt up to the side of the scanner and then I have my 4x5 at perfect parallel. Then I scan 2/3s of the 4x5 and then flip for the other 2/3s. With two images I can use Microsoft ICE (free) to stitch and I have a completed 4x5 image. It works great, my first try:

Yes I did after I shaved all it's hair off.

Why is it okay to shoot rabbits and squirrels but not tigers? An animal is an animal.

Shame on you, Tom Hicks, for shooting those tigers. 😀😀

ps If you have any birthday money left, you seriously need to think about the betterscanning template and anr glass. Good stuff, that.

I'm thinking about the v600, for my 120 negatives ( I have a 5000ed for 35mm). it seems me you are all satisfied, just a question: is it possible to scan a complete 120 frame perforation included? Sometimes I shoot Holga and I like to have the perforation included. Thanks

I also have the V600 and am quite happy with it. I was wondering if anyone was making glass negative holders for odd shaped MF negs. I have an assortment of old outdated negatives I would like to scan for my dad. I was thinking about making a "standard" that registered against top and bottom of the scanner bed and butted up agains one side and then a double layer of glass to sandwich the negative. Anyone try this?

I figure the actual negative size wouldn't matter so much. At thoughts?

I'm happy with my V500. I like a sharp print; I'm happy with prints up to 6x the linear dimension of the negative.


Here's a long thread about V500/V600 scans... Look for my posts with sample images.

In particular, here is a file ready to print at 12x18" from my V500 scan of a 6x9 negative from an excellent lens (Mamiya Press 100 f/2.8 on tripod).
