Hmmm. I think one good example of each major type, (not models) and excluding the "Babies" for which only limited film stock is available (they were mostly for slides anyway) is enough. Any more and I'd have to call myself a collector.

Given the current market situation I think the prices are not that bad, though I would need to be sure they are in good condition, and recently CLA'd. If they've not been serviced for quite some time, then a discount of $250 or so would be reasonable. All other things being equal, I'd buy the Xenotar if I were you, not because I know its better, but because you may get it cheaper, and I've seen no evidence its any lesser a lens than the Planar. But ultimately the one in the best condition wins, always.

You're not a collector, as long as you use them all. At least, that's what I keep telling myself. . .

I hear what you are saying though. Funds permitting, I would love to get a Tele myself, but, as I've been quite acquisitive over the last year or so, this may have to wait a while yet.

so I shot the Xenotar...took a flashlight, roll of Tri X (still at the lab) and a meter. No lens separation, a tiny bit of dust, but no major issues from what I could tell. The long exposure (green) side did not seem to work but the from 1 second on seemed to be ok. Still would think it would need a cla though. From the Sekonic meter, the Rollei was roughly more than a 1/3 off....meter: 125/6.3 ...camera...125/5.6.

Honestly, the struggle to use the thing might not be worth it as 120 film is expensive to develop now as there are virtually no labs in Honolulu so its just not worth it. if anything a Mamiya 645 1000s is a much more modern camera and easier to use as its also cheaper...a worn Hasselblad is also somewhat cheaper as well but here in HNL film development is tough.

I hate to turn my back on analogue but alas digital...well you know. Honestly, I'll probably be better off saving the Rollei cash and buying a Canon 24mm 1.4 lens instead.
