Hello everybody. New member here. I was hoping to get some comments and possible values on this nikon kit.

I have recently come into possession of this fine piece from my father who was given it by his father (who purchased it new).

I am not a collector and may be looking to sell to someone that would truly love to have it as part of their collection. It does have significant sentimental value but my father and I are reassured that if it were to find a new home it would be greatly treasured.

It is in outstanding condition and working order. The S3 (serial #6307148) has a wear point on the top of the camera body near the advance lever and a couple of very slight marks on the base of the body. The lens (serial #120768) is also outstanding, with only 2 tiny marks that can only be seen under very close inspection and no mould.

The original box is still solid. Instruction manual is partially worn but still holding together. The guarantee certificate, stamped 'July 31 1958' is as new.
Leather camera case and strap, lens hood with leather case, lens cap, exposure meter with leather case, booster cell with leather case, film cassette, Walz 62 skylight filter all excellent.

I will attach pictures and hope they work. All comments are welcome. Thanks.

Kind regards, Duncan

The set looks to be in excellent condition, and complete with box, warranty card, hood etc. Am I right in assuming that the box says "with Nikkor-N 5cm f1.1" and that the serial numbers of both the S3 body and the lens are on the warranty card? If so, its definitely a kit that a Nikon RF collector would be interested in.

For each piece on its own, I guesstimate as follows:

S3 body - $1,000
Nikkor 50/1.1 - $2,500
Nikkor 50/1.1 hood - $1,000
Nikon meter - $150
S3 manual - $50

However, considering you have an original and complete set in excellent condition, it should sell for considerably more. But in the current depressed market, its anybody's guess as to how much more....

Beautiful set, for sure. Could sell for even more. Collectors are fanatics. This is a treasure for them.

either way,
That laminated(or is it in a plastic sleeve?) gurantee card is the most valuable item in that whole set. Your GrandPa had the vision of keeping it attached to the camera all this years...
BRAVO.
I thought I would never see a Nikon S3 with one of those boxes marked "With Nikkor 5cm f1.1"
Now that I see an internal mount lens attached to such a kit, I think I can claim, "I've seen it all"

Hi gentlemen,

Thank you very much for your comments. Very informative.

Just to answer some of your questions (or confirm your assumptions),

jonmanjiro - you are correct, the box reads "with NIKKOR-N 5cm f1.1" and the serial numbers of both lens and body are on the guarantee card.

Nikon Kiu - the hood is the plastic type and the guarantee card is in a plastic sleeve, not laminated.

Kind regards, Duncan

It is odd though
I would have expected a external mount 1.1
rather than a internal on a S3 body
still nice set.
any thoughts on an asking price??

A fantastic set.... I am sure this is for a collector to pick up but I would like to have a set like to use!

I would say - keep it as a "pension payment" and while keeping it - why not use it too!
