Does anyone know if using a variable ND filter on film Rangefinder like Leica at higher stops is a good idea, due to the 'X' that appears at higher stops and especially on wide angle lenses?
The problem is that I can't really check if I'm getting the cross pattern with a film camera until the film is developed.
Currently I am using only a 50mm Summilux ASPH, but I have been thinking about adding a 35mm. From what I could understand the 50mm should be fine, but there is little point in buying a variable ND filter if I can't use it on a 35mm. Also I prefer shooting with Potra 400 as I find it more flexible with regards to being both indoor and outdoor.
The three VND filter I have been looking at is the Heliopan, the Tiffen and the Genustech Eclipse.
Should I just get a solid ND filter at 0.9 or 1.8, so I don't have to worry?
If you wonder why I need a ND filter, I often find myself traveling to places with harsh midday sun 🙄
