About ten years ago,I bought one from the Head Bartender. Years ago I gave it to my son. I just bought an M8 and got the lens back. I have spent time on the CameraQuest site but am still confused. I think it is the Compact type as it has the focus tab. I want to buy a IR filter for it but am confused about filter size and installation. The blurb says to remove the shade to install a 39mm filter. My shade seems fixed and I don't want to force it.

Any help appreciated:

M or LTM? LTM with focus tab is 39mm. It is the only type of Skopar I haven't tried. If shade hasn't been removed during ten years, it might be sitting tight.

If you have the front lens cap, put it over the hood, twist.

If not, put a wide rubber band around it, try to twist. Try grabbing the hood in different areas around the outside.

It is not how hard you twist, it is where you grab it when you twist. Sounds counter intuitive, but it works.

Four different Color Skopar 35mm f2.5. Top row, left to right: first version Pancake Ltm. Center, a wayward Leica Summarit 35mm f2.5, right: Voigtlander S Skopar 35mm f2.5.
Bottom row: left Color Skopar 35mm f2.5 vII Ltm and Color Skopar 35mm f2.5 M-Mount.
To undo the hood: try holding the lens and pushing the hood against the palm of your hand and turn. If you try to grab the hood - it is easy to "distort" the thin metal and it can cause it tp bind further.

39mm filters bud, your hood is stuck tight. If you have the original front cap try using it as leverage to unscrew the hood. I had a 25mm with a hood that wouldnt budge, I wrapped it in a towel and placed it over my heater vent for a hour, once warm it did twist off reluctantly.

A very tiny dab of Teflon grease rubbed across the threads before you re-attach the hood is recommended!
