Can the ISO selection disc be tightened? I've just got back from a very surreal art exhibition (deserted) in the middle of nowhere and realised the ISO dial had slipped from 400 to between 800 and 1600 (agh! gnash gnash).

I think I might extend the amount of blu-tac (around the viewfinder) on my Mir to the dial as well - thought there might be a way to fix this on the £130 meter...

I have the VC Meter I and have the same problem. I use a small peice of scotch tape folded around the dial to hold the ISO constant. It's a bit tacky but it works.

Langdon,

Dirt from use plus a couple of slight bends from being dropped 🙄 I had the same problem with it when it was new, but I just lived with it and after a bit regular use ... no more problem 😱

But it stood up to my (ab)use very well.

Yeah man, I stupidly cleaned it up a little, then it got all loose. Now it's like a little pig pen again, and tight 🙂

Accurate meter but two things were very annoying, so I sold it:

1. easily spun film speed dial
2. battery door congstantly flying open at the worn moment

Too labor-intensive!

how sensitive and useful is this meter in low light situations or as some might query, in available darkness?

Hey...
I've found it to be pretty accurate, accept...eh ehhhmm...when the ISO dial isn't where I think it is😱 Just about everything in my gallery after Jan. '06 was metered with it (or whenever the heck I bought it from William).

It does have an excellent reputation... and it's also known for having the problem mentioned above.

One of my Leica MR meters had the same disease... and after a while, I got tired of the tape, so I decided to check on it all the time and ended up memorizing some settings: an outcome I didn't expect.

Well, if it is the same problem as the VC I meter, it is very easy to fix.

Go to the drug store and buy a pair of "needle point" tweezers. About a dollar, US.

Put a piece of Scotch tape lightly over the dial (to elimate the chance of scratching).

Then poke right through the tape, and insert the needle points right in the two little holes at the center dials. This is a tension adjustment. Tighten a tiny bit.

Remove tweezers, remove tape. A 10 second fix.

I often read people complaining about the ASA dial being too loose but mine is the opposite. Its really hard to adjust sometimes.
