I moved a couple of months ago to France for a job after a long time in Taiwan. The price of Velvia RVP50/135-36 seems to be much higher than the price in Taipei, and developing costs are off the charts. If anybody can point me in the direction of cost-saving solutions, I'd really appreciate it! (I can speak French, if it makes a difference, in addition to Chinese, Japanese and English:)).

I'd say the price of just about everything is high in France, so it doesn't surprise me that Velvia is expensive. In Paris, we thought of getting some C41 developed & printed. The camera store wanted about 35 euros! We passed.

Ouch!
Right now it looks like it's about 10 euros/roll with 10-15 for processing (or more?). At that price, it would be worth it for me to buy it in Taipei and send it back to Taipei for processing.

Maybe somebody else has experience with a better solution?

France is part of the EU - and shipping across one border does barely add to the price any more. Many German and UK mail order distributors sell Velvia. In doubt try Nordfoto, Macodirect or Fujilab UK - these have it in stock this very minute.

Try Negatif Plus in Paris. It's good quality processing and not too expensive. Just google them.
To buy film I'd use mail order.

Holy friggin' cow, where did you go?! Many places in Paris charge about 10 or 20 Euros for a set of 50 prints of 10x14 cm (a 4x6 in image fits in it, leaving a white border). But a single print itself at this size is about 0.20 Euros.

Development itself of a C-41 roll costs somewhere between 7 and 10 Euros.

I think zere was a leetle bit of confooshon when making ze command.

I haven't tried them, but give these guys a call:

I haven't found a place where to have E-6 developed, either. I don't like them to be mounted (which is the typical order); unmounted is much cheaper, and for the life of me I don't know how to ask this in French because nobody that I know even knows what "slide" ("inversible") film is, far less the difference between "mounted" and "unmounted" slides.

Since I am in Lyon, not Paris, it would have to be mail order for the places mentioned in this thread. Negatif + looks well set up for mail order -- on paper, at least.

It may very well be cheaper to send the film to Taipei to be developed there

I don't yet have my scanner with me (it is still in Taipei), but I will obviously be scanning myself as soon as I can.

Prophot is nice as well, but I can't remember if they have a branch in Lyon. They ship for a rather low price anyway. But it could be cheaper for you to go to paris and back, sometimes :) (takes 4h/return after all)
