I normally only shoot b&w film, leaving color to digital. I have, however, 4 rolls of Velvia that I need to scan. I use Vuescan and a KM Scan Dual IV. My initial efforts have produced images with a severe magenta cast, and I am having trouble getting the color balance correct.

If anyone has a workflow to suggest, I would be very appreciative.

First, try to scan as Image, not Slide. That always gave me better color and Ed Hamrick himself suggests this for slide film.

Rich,

Thanks for the tip. The color cast I was getting was so bad I thought the scanner was toast. I then did my old reliable trick (I unplugged it). When I turned it back on, the color cast was gone, but I had banding. Upgrading to the latest version of Vuescan then eliminated the banding. I think I am now good to go.

You can also try messing w/the color balance options. Often, choosing "None" or "Neutral" (as opposed to "Auto" or "White Balance") works better.
