Velvia: What Conditions Yield Good Skin Tones?

I don't have my 6x6 slide film sheets in Spain right now: I haven't used Astia for the last five years... B&W only, with just a bit of Ektar and Portra shooting... Don't get me wrong: you can use Velvia as much as you want, and it's not my business, it's just that I feel curious why you insist in doing portraits with the worst film available for that job... Portra films are the best ones, not only to my taste, but to most great photographers' taste... If you like color portraiture, take a look here:

I already knew what this film did best. I wanted to see what not to do and as a result I have discovered that it does what it does best, strong saturation in certain light and wonderful skies with a polarizer ( this was evident when viewing Flickr images and reading comments) and it can do portraits with a wonderful look of its own. Thanks for the link.
