ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Today I decided I would expand my web presence via Flickr...I'm still waiting to sort my own website out, being a complete moron with computers I'm going to cough up the cash to get someone far far cleverer than myself to do it for me.

I'm not sure how it works for people in other countries or using different service providers but when I registered with Flickr they wanted me to use my yahoo (linked to btinternet.com) email address and internet login.

I duly did - this became my Flickr name, user i.d. or homepage name - whatever they call it. I uploaded five photographs (having watermarked them) and then realised I could change the Flickr name/homepage/user i.d. thing to my - OurManInTangiers name. Once I'd done this I logged off with the intention of picking more images to watermark and upload (nothing new and exciting yet as I was playing with images already on this site.) When I went to log on again it refused to accept either my password or user i.d - it wanted my email address and password, though when I fed it that information it refused to swallow it.

Having emailed my problems through to the "helpdesk" they came back with the standard "follow the instructions, if that doesn't work contact your ISP for your login info" crap!!!:bang:

Now all I want to do is delete the OurManInTangiers Flickr pages and start again - which is proving impossible:mad:

It's late, i'm angry and I don't understand why it needs to be so seemingly inextricably linked to your email details. Thank goodness for the simplicity of RFF.

So apologies for dumping my stress in a whole new, and likely unread thread, apologies also for the severe overuse of icons;)

If anyone else has had problems with Flickr I'd love to hear them, if everyone thinks I'm a luddite, well, you're probably right.

Whenever I point new users to my Flickr photos, they always complain about difficulties logging in. I don't know what it is, but it is especially challenging if you already have a Yahoo id.

Flickr just seems to be clumsy and awkward to me. I know some people love it, and if you do, all the better. I'm just not that crazy about it. :(

Holy crap Simon it's like 3am...shouldn't we all get some sleep so we can set up our iPhones tomorrow with a clear head :D :p Yeah I hadn't known flickr was linked with Yahoo till I signed up, and had to dredge up my 8 year old yahoo info.

Simon,

I think Flickr allows you to change your screen name to whatever it is that you want but your login id will always remain what you picked at first.

I created a Flickr account before it was taken over by Yahoo. I changed my screen name a few times, finally settling in on eternalvoid. However, the name I used to login to Flickr was what I initially picked (I forget what it was.)

For the sake of argument, if you initially picked Simon as your Yahoo/login name, you will always login as Simon but your Flickr name (for the sake of networking/friends/etc) can be OurManInTangiers or anything else that you wish it to be.

After the Yahoo takeover, I had to associate my Flickr ID with a Yahoo account, and I now use my Yahoo ID to signin. Frankly, I use Flickr only as a temporary photo storage site now.

I hope that helps,
Nikhil

I guess you just need to go there and log in with your yahoo account name and password. I'm not really a Luddite, just a know-nothing when it comes to pc's and such.

Trouble is Steamer I can find the pages as an unsigned in visitor...i just can't seem to log-in!!

Thanks for the info and clarification Nikhil - more than I got from Flickr!

I think the real answer is to get a personal website up and running....anyone interested in helping out?!

I'll probably just go right through now, s'okay - I can doze at work....no-one will notice any difference:D

Hi Simon
I hope you get things resolved cause I really like that photo "small man". I wanna see more of your stuff.

If it helps, i think someone mentioned it already, but you need to log in with your "original" email ID and password, not the "alias" you give it once you created one.

HTH.

Never had a problem with Flickr and it has some features that are of incredible value - things that will make it the tool for the ages.

Yes, you can be two different screen names.
My yahoo login is mtbbrian, while my Flickr user name is Red Holga Man.

Why don't you set up your page on Uber. You have photos there already and you can start a photoblog if you wan't. Then when you get more comp. savvy you can start a web site somewhere else. I am pretty much an idiot when it comes to computers, and Uber is pretty easy once you understand the directions on the help page. I tried to start a site on e blogger and gave up. One day i'll give it another go.

Hi Simon,
Sorry to hear about your Flickr problem. I went through a similar cycle:
1. Created an account; didn't have a yahoo email so created one and assigned a password.
2. Changed my user name after creating the account.
3. To log on I have to use the *original* yahoo email address and password. Seems to works every time I try.

If you want to create your own website without ads/banners etc, www.uk2.net offer webhosting for £3.99 per month (3000MB webspace 100GB monthly bandwidth). The also do cheap web address registration, especially for uk domains (£1.99 per year).

They are doing a "2 months free hosting" offer at present.

All the best.
