Venting !!!

I miss a lot of the "fun" over there by just not reading a thread once it starts going south. Thick skin Jorge.

Ah... The Troll. One of the great things about the Internet. Maybe he'll crawl back underneath his bridge and wait for Billy Goat Gruff now. *shakes head*

After reading that reply of his, the first paragraph of the contest annopucement clearly validates itself.

Amazing. Live, learn and remember.

In other order of things, Jorge did you notice that Karen Nakamura posted news of the RFF contest on her blog ? Very nice from her :)

I know you are more than capable of fighting your own battles, Jorge. But I was appalled by what I read and was compelled to post the following (my first and perhaps last to PN):

"Mr. Stephen W.,
You are one pleasant piece of work. How fortunate for any charity to have such a wonderful and magnanimous soul involved in their endeavors, and so humble. What a pleasure it must be to know you personally; I now feel a great personal void in not realizing this.

Doug Shea"

Doug,

Incredible how some people are. I would just stay out of it all together now.

Taffer,

have not seen the link.

Jorge, I've seen some nasty stuff on the various boards I visit but that is one of the worst. That guy has terminal constipation! If you read his bio, he claims to be a rangefinder kind of fellow with an M-3 & M-6 Leica. And he's been happy since getting them! I'd hate to hear him when he's unhappy.

The first reply from Arthur wasn't much better.

Kind of validates the old saying "No good deed goes unpunished".

Makes me glad I'm here where everyone makes an effort to get along. In the long run, Jorge, you're the class act and the winner. He's........ well, what he is.

Obviously, Stephen is addressing some demon inside his own head rather than you Jorge. His rudeness just makes him look foolish to others and his behavior is self limiting. Too bad he will miss the opportunity to experience the joy we find in using our rangefinders. He may have rangefinders but he doesn't seem to be enjoying them, if he has the time to belittle others in the public arena. Thanks for all your efforts Jorge. I am looking forward to this contest. I may have too many cameras, but I don't have any modern rangefinder with removable lens mount and internal metering...yet.

Jorge, people like him are why Photo.net discussions deteriorate into name calling, bashing, & personal attacks. I don't know why they bother. Please know that your work is greatly appreciated by those of us who have benefitted so much by this site.

Cheers,
Huck

I am so glad this site has first class members. I have never asked anything from my members and have always made an effort to provide what you guys need. In doing every now and then I try to share with others. In return this is waht I get

Jorge, one of the great tautologies of life is that there will always be more equine derrieres than there will be equines. :) :(

Another fact of life is that many south ends of horses traveling north tend to gravitate to certain online forums (fora?). All of us here know there is at least one very obvious exception to this rule, and we do appreciate it, and the efforts of those who keep this place going and participate in it.

One piece of advice I would offer is that it takes at least two to play the game of net.bovine.doodoo and the only way to win is to not play. If you don't play along, the game ends and those who start it look like jerks and lose the game by default.

I just hope they keep those games in their little corner of the net. :)

Jorge, don't let someone like this guy waste your time. I once had someone last year post that he hoped I'd die soon (on a different forum, but he apparently meant it!). I understand he was banned, and I left the forum. Life is too short...

This is why I find myself spending less and less time in photo forums. I'm not sure if the Internet brings out the worst in some people or if it simply exposes me to people that I would not normally meet in my everday life (lower life forms). Either way, it spoils the fun.

What I have done, though, is enroll in a zone system class at the New England School of Photography. Real live people, and nice, too!

By the way, this site is much better than other photo forums. Most folks here have been very polite and helpful.

Thank you.
Robert

Dear Jorge,

Well, I for one will be spending less time there now that I have discovered your forum.

I know how you feel. This vicious garbage really hurts. I know because I am sometimes on the receiving end -- you can't do as many books/articles/etc as I do without getting hate mail. No words of comfort really work: part of you still thinks 'Well, maybe I'm doing something wrong.'

On admittedly limited acquaintance, if you are doing something wrong, I haven't seen what it is yet.

Cheers,

Roger

I only spend my time on two forums: the Rollei list is like going to the gym and sparring fifteen rounds everyday -- it gets intense but always respectful and intellectually based, and never the mean, viciousness that was shown over on PhotoNet. And then I visit here for a pleasant respite among friends:). Of course, my real allegiance is here because I use my rangefinders way more than my Rollei gear, but they are a fascinating group over on the Rollei list as well. I feel fortunate to have found one place that will have me, blessed to have found two.

Yeah, I had a run-in with this Stephen guy earlier this year on the Leica forum at Photo.net. It seems like he's into thread-crapping. This is what happened: I started a thread asking for comparisons between a couple of CV lenses. Him and 2 others posted replies. Something came up and I was busy and couldn't get back to the thread until the next day. Stephen criticized me for the slow response. I thanked the other 2 guys for their helpful posts but not Stephen. He then catergorized my post as "another useless thread for the archives." Well, a few days later he started a thread that got deleted by the moderator (probably because it was deemed not worth archiving). Not getting the hint, he started up a duplicate thread again and actually stated that the 1st thread got deleted so he's starting up a duplicate. I don't think he got the irony of it all.

I would just stay out of it all together. I suggest the same to everyone. All he is looking for is a confrontation and if we reply he wins.
