news today.

After emerging as the top bidder in a five-month auction, Verizon Communications has agreed to buy the historic web franchise’s core assets for $4.83 billion.

opinions how photo oriented sites of Yahoo will evolve?

My guess -- at best Flickr and Tumblr will be sold.

"Evolve" is not a word that comes to mind.

My guess as well. I have been a huge fan of Flickr, having licensed lots of photos from my posted photos there. It's made me a bunch of money. I don't know much about Tumblr, signed up once I think but never used it.

If Flickr gets spun off, I hope they put some time and money into it; it seems as if it isn't getting much attention anymore.

As it happens, I have an AT&T Uverse account and it uses Yahoo's webmail system. I wonder how that's going to work with Verizon owning it?

Guess Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc. would all be interested of these assets. But tough transition time ahead for old users?

It would be amazing if I could use flickr without a yahoo email account like someone else mentioned. I'd love to just link it to my Google account like everything else.

Also, in before the myriad of Verizon jokes. ETF, throttling usage, etc.

I expect the same. Everyone follows that business paradigm it seems. Buy what you want to get to big to be allowed to fail, sell off everything else for some immediate profit.

I transitioned from Yahoo photos which was free to Flicker and was offered free PRO account forever. Seemed like a good deal, so I signed up. In a year or so after I put some photos up, they wanted me to pay some fairly large sum to keep the account, I refused and the account is locked, Fortunately they were only copies.

I am not getting mixed up in any of these programs anymore.

5 billion. Really! No wonder phone bills are so high.
