Brian,
As in.."the thing moves around when I move the camera around.." loose.
Anything a n00b like me can do to add a bit of resistance to this thing without damaging it?
TIA!

The optics module simply unscrews from the focus mount.
I put a few layers of Scotch tape on the inside rim of the focus mount to put some friction on the aperture ring. Scissors and tape are the onle necessary tools.

The best camera is one that still works!
Interesting question and I'll be curious to see what is suggested. My J-3 isn't as bad as you describe with your J-8 but the slightest touch still moves it and I get sick of checking it constantly when I use it on my Kiev ll.

Can I do this with my J-3 Brian?
This also works with the J-3, and I have scotch tape on my Black KMZ hybrid. Same applies- the optics module simply unscrews, put some tape on the inner rim to put some friction on the aperture ring.
You can see the top of the tape to the left, just peaking above the aperture ring.

On the J-3, you can see the tape peeking out at the F2 mark.

There's very little of the optics module protruding past the aperture ring ... how the hell do I get a grip on it to undo it. So far I can't budge it!

I have been unable to budge mine as well. I bought mine from Fedka and I suspect that his tech adds Loctite as a final touch when he goes over a lens.

(Might have to send it back to Yuri. The aperture blades are getting pretty drippy looking with oil. Too much of a good thing, I guess...)
