Brad, I'm guessing from the board game all of you made it to Portsmouth Square? I smell Chinatown just seeing that.

Nice photos everyone. Funny how familiar everything is and how refreshing it is when seeing it thru someone else's eyes. Sorry I missed the meetup but hopefully this will happen again soon.

Very nice shots Brad. And Mike too. Oh, and Mike! Thanks for taking care of the beer tab! That was a pleasant surprise when we tried to get the bill. Now I feel not so bad pushing that roll of ERA100 on you!
Well, as I suspected my Jupiter-12 was having issues. I had found something a bit loose on the BART ride over and found the pieces of the lens (not the elements) can screw apart. I thought I had set it back right but in the end had not. About half my shots were completely blurry as a result (I used the 90 Elmar half the time too). Good news is some of the 90 Elmar shots look good and I'll post a few later. Better news is I re-built the Jupiter-12 again and shot the last few frames of my final roll that afternoon after getting home and it's tack sharp and focuses perfectly again. Oh well.
Good time everyone. We should do it again soon but perhaps expand our horizons a bit, no?

Yes! Thanks a lot Mike, that was a nice surprise - very generous...
Rich, bummer on your lens...
Still a little chagrined on my lens cap faux-pas at O'reilly's. Ttrying to shoot the couple with the dogs, wondering why my cam wouldn't fire, and having one of the subjects point out my problem - with a bunch of photogs at the table.... I could probably go all day with an RF and come back with blank film...

Saturday was a great time. Good to meet some new faces from the forum and to get some tips from you street shooting pros! I have to say that after seeing some of the shots you guys got, and realizing that I was standing right there next to you, mine pale by comparison. Clearly I still have much to learn. Oh well, in the spirit of sharing, here's a link to some of my shots: http://www.flickr.com/photos/randygard/sets/72157603712086811/show/
And thanks, Mike, for picking up that first round. Very generous of you.
And yeah, I'm definitely up for doing all this again soon.

Brad,
Great photos! I hope to eventually meet up with you guys, when possible. Unfortunately, I had family related events that I needed to attend.

Brad - very nice shots. I really like the cab driver shot and remember when you ran out into the street to take it and thinking to myself, "what does he think he's going to get with a crazy grab shot like that?" You clearly proved me wrong!
Ray - as I said above, I was by your side most of the day yet your shots are so much better than mine. It's clear that your many hours shooting on the street have paid off.
Rich - good to finally meet you and I'm looking forward to seeing some of your shots. At least those with the 90 (and sorry to hear about your Jupiter 12 woes - but glad to hear that you got it back in working order).
Ed - again, nice to meet you and hopefully you made it home safely. And thanks for being the instigator to get this group together.
Mike - thanks again for the beers and sorry you couldn't hang with us longer. And remember me if you ever want to find a home for that beat up old barnack camera... ;-)
Lastly, I'm looking forward to a repeat performance sometime soon. Lots of great places to shoot in the city and around the SF Bay Area so we have lots to choose from.

Cool. I like the vertical one, Mike.
I don't know what you're talking about, Randy. You've got some great shots there. Great minds think alike. I also took a shot of the brunette on the part bench. I'll add it when I get home. We shot the heck out of the old guy with the hat.
That was a fund shoot.

That old guy with the hat is always around Chinatown wearing the exact same thing.

Eh, it's an odds/probability sort of thing - usually very low. Luck prevails once in awhile!

He must get photographed a lot. He didn't mind us snapping away at him at all.

Yeah, I kinda figured that was what was going on. But sheesh, you seem to have very good luck as a number of your "playing the odds" shots turned out very well. Almost makes me rethink my focus on film cameras!

Yeah, I found him quite intriguing. Wish I had taken some more shots of him. I did take two. The first I posted in the flickr slideshow I linked to above. And it's a fuzzy, tightly cropped image. Photographically it's a mess of a shot. But I liked it better than the more carefully composed, more in focus shot. So, I'm curious what others think. Here's the two shots side-by-side. Anybody care to comment on one versus the other?

Sorry folks. I just got home...flight cancellations into Logan. Was going to post a picture here, but I've never embedded a photo in a message before and I'm apparently too tired to figure out how. I'll get it eventually, just not tonight. Nite- Nite.

Yeah, Ray, me too. Which is why I posed the question. I mean, it's not in sharp focus, it's oddly framed, etc. Like I said, photographically it's a mess. But darn if I don't like it for some reason. Similarly, the unlevel shot of the older Chinese man (see my slideshow posted above) I find more interesting than after I straightened it up to be level. Not that I'm suggesting I should try unlevel shots or oddly cropped, slightly out of focus shots, but this does seem to show that there's more to an interesting shot than the mechanics of sharp focus, level horizons, rule of thirds composition, etc.
