Not exactly a rangefinder, but did anyone spot this on eBay: -

Is it Zorki 4-k based?

as far as I can remember, it is a Zorki 4K minus the VF/RF and flash shoe and with a special mount for a periscope.

How many is enough?
Through a periscope! Must be fun to try and meter that shot. What's the maximum aperture of a Russian submarine periscope?! Who's volunteering to go up on deck to take a light meter reading?

Definitely one for the collector, rather than the user - unless you happen to have a Soviet hunter/killer sub. moored down the marina.
I've been wondering what the self-timer is for. You'd have to be pretty nippy to get up top and get in the shot!

Well, I guess to set both timers (camera and torpedo) together would make a nice effect

the use of such Zorkis is obvious military or at least scientific, but not limited by navy. quite many science devices could be connected with such camera

It's a Zola, C-206. A modified Zorki 6. It's an SLR without the prism, the lens is on the top where the prism would fit. It was designed to be hidden in an attache case or ladies purse, possibly a book for covert work.

The first camera is from a military complex called PDF:

The second one is special purpose camera (mostly spy applications, meant to be used from inside a special briefcase) called Zola as already mentioned. See more here:

Thanks for those links Vladimir! Very good pictures, and a lot of interesting information. So the eBay listing was right about it being a periscope camera, but probably wrong about it being used in subs.

Yea I think that particular PDF was meant to be used by ground troops.. but I do have an interesting Zorki in my collection that may have been used on a submarine based on the paint job. See here:

The best camera is one that still works!
After some of the FSU experiences we read about here on RFF the thought of being a couple of hundred feet under water in a Russian sub somehow lacks appeal for me!

I'm pretty sure anyone who's seen "K19: The Widowmaker" would go along with that, Keith!
