I took my third trip in 4 years to Vietnam about 4 weeks ago. I spent 15 days there and had a great time. I brought my Zeiss Ikon, M2, L-308 meter, ZM 18/4, 35/1.4 APSH, 50 Lux and a heap of film. I'll post more shots up here as I go through them.

Someday I should scan the pictures from when we were there to adopt our son.

On this trip I specifically went to Hanoi, Ha Long Bay/Cat Ba Island (to touristy I won't go back), Ninh Binh, Dong Hoi, Hue and Danang. I took my whole family on the trip so I had to make accommodations for them that I wouldn't have taken myself.
 
These shots are fantastic! I really enjoyed my time in Vietnam, but I went there before I got into photography. I hope to go back some day, but it will have changed by then. How much change have you noticed on you various trips?

Thanks, my previous two times to Vietnam I only had a PnS with me so I feel your pain! The first time I went was 4 years ago and places like Ha Long Bay have changed for the worse. Another thing that was shocking, but a sign of Vietnam's economic strength was the level of domestic tourists. Each place I went western tourists were out numbered more than 10 to 1, maybe closer to 100 to 1. I don't remember seeing many Vietnamese tourists 4 years ago.

Some things I'm sure will never change. Most of the changes are minor but there are major ones. I saw much fewer rice fields being tended by hand. Again in 2006 I almost never saw a farm implement aside from a water buffalo and plow, but now most farmers have mechanical harvesters and planters.

The cars are also worlds better than 2006. Every business has a shiny new car, that change actually happend in less than two years. In 2006 ever car I rode in was fairly beat up including microhotels for a few dollars and resorts for hundreds a night. IN 2008 the same microhotels had brand new toyotas and the resorts had a whole fleet of toyotas.

I love Vietnam, but 4 years later it was much harder to stay off the beaten path than it was in 2006 and I bet 10 years ago it was even more amazing to visit, but less amazing for the people to live in. I'm very happy to see the Vietnamese people pulling the country out of the abject poverty that years of socialism and land redistribution left them in.
