view from 75/85/90

the other day my 75mm cv finder arrived in the mail.

i quickly put it on the zeiss ikon to compare it the built in 85mm framelines.
man, what a difference.

walking up to a hanging 16x20 frame, the 85mm fl lined up perfectly with the top 2 corners of the frame. the external 75 mm finder swallowed the frame and then some. the difference was large and surprising as i thought it would be much closer.

this may help explain why i used the cv 75 so much more than i now use the hex 90. i think the zi 85 fl are much closer to the 90 fov than to 85.

It is interesting to look at how different manufacturers mark framelines. I find the 90 on my M6 to be fine for a 105, full frame, sort of like shooting with a F2. A bit tight for most folks, but for me, it works. FLs are something else that varies from vendor ot vendor. I seem to remember reading something about it varies from lens to lens in the same FL and the same vendor. Something about the number enscribed on the body of Leica lenses sometime during recent production.

I do have to say, the 75mm FL interests me a bit too much. One part of me is very happy that CV only makes a f2.5, if they made f2 or faster I would be all over it (GAS solved for a bit, but wife would be on a war path).

How is the 75mm finder? I was thinking of getting one. I just got a ZI a few days ago and am just getting acquainted with it. My only pet peeve so far is the lack of a 75mm frameline. I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't put them in. I love the 75mm fl, and having to resort to a finder for this wonderful new camera is killing me.

so does that mean you LIKE your new 75MM viewfinder?????😀

dan, as you know the finder is great, it's metal, solid and small.
if a cv 75 becomes available at a good price i 'd buy it and see hoe well it might work on the r4m.

I think that Zi doesnt have a 75mm frame cause they don't make a 75mm lens. Cosina and Leica do, therefore they add it to their cameras.
