Hi Mark,

I recognize that view since I live in the valley. Nice.

I have a question for you or any other G2 users. I just bought a G2 with 28,45,90 lenses but am struggling.

The color balance of your image is what I am seeing also with the Kodak films and is not correct. It is lacking in cyan and blue. This really shows in light colors and skin tones. Yours & mine both always seem a little purple in the skys.

Have you noticed this or overcome it in anyway.

I like how the camera draws in B&W, but just have not been able to accept color from it yet.

Checking pictures on the ContaxG pages, gives me the same impression of lacking cyan & blue.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Best,

Ray

Hi Ray

I scan the slides myself and adjust slightly to make it more warm.
I like warm tones more than cool tones.
In fact, I believe the Velvia slides give a more cool look than warm.
From what i have seen, it isnt lacking in cyan and blue.

Sometimes it depends on who scanned your slides too. Anything converted to a digital medium will always go through some form of manupilation.
Even the 1hr labs will tweak your images to make it look "great"

Lastly, work with your G2. I believe that if you can learn to use it, it will give stunning results. The reason why i bought was mainly due to the Zeiss glass.
It has not disappointed me.

I actually love chrome too!
I like it because the actual colours are transfixed onto the medium directly.
It doesnt have to go through am extra stage of digital manipulation through 1)scanning the negatives and converting to colour or 2)making prints.

A bit overexposed, maybe; fiddle with it and see.

my calibrated screen shows it as bright but not overexposed.
the digital histogram doesn't show the graph flying off the right side..

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the answer.

I have no plan on giving up on the G2, but rather the opposite. I just received the 21 lens today.

I actually just have a lab do the development, while I scan & print myself. (Nikon 5000 ED & Epson 3800)

I know that I can make adjustments in the scan or post-processing, but just don't understand why I only see the warmth in rolls that were shot from the G2 and not from my M5 with Leica glass. (same film, same subject, processed at the same time by the same lab) After seeing this, I did alot of looking on the ContaxG pages and see that the majority of color photos there also have some of this shift.

My next try with the G2 is going to be some Fuji film 160S for negative, and a roll of slide film to confirm. I have a positive target that I can use to calibrate the scanner, so I'll really be able to see if the Zeiss T* coatings are moving the color on me or not.

Best,

Ray

Hope you enjoyed your time in Phoenix.

HI RAY

Let me know what your tests show.

Enjoy the 21mm lens. Its fantastic. Almost zero distortion at the corners

The Phoenician resort, cool! I used to frequent the beer garden there. It's a good thing these pictures are not from today, cause my usually accurate car thermometer registered 121 today. And they charge a lot for the helicopter ride down from the top of Camelback now.

That's a neat picture, and I can't see my house. ;)
