Viewfinder for Hektor 73 1.9 and black Leica III

I am looking for a viewfinder to use with my Leica III and the Hektor 73 mm 1.9:

Should I go for a VIOOH or which other Viewfinder would you suggest?

For usability clearly the CV 75 brightline finder.

Alternative (time frame matching) there was a folding type finder for the Hektor.
Hard to find. Or (as you say) a vario-finder.

1+ vote for the CV75mm VF. It's the best you can find for the money.

make that +2 - i used a Voigtlander 75mm bright line finder with mine and it was great. well, other than that whole 'i wear wacked glasses so focusing a 73/1.9 on a Barnack didn't go well' thing.

The Leitz VIDOM finders came with a 73mm setting, and I seem to recall that some of the VIOOH/IMARECT ones did too.

You don't want a VINDOM unless you like looking at an upside down and reversed image of what your taking a picture of! Also the Dedicated 73 finder Leica made will cost about $700+
I vote for the CV75mm VF as well. They are good quality and small.
Hope you enjoy the lens. I found a nice one a few years back and I like it!

The VIDOM is not upside down, just reversed left-right. Unless you have the eye-piece turned to the portrait setting instead of landscape. 😉

I have recently bought a black CV 75 mm.
I think it will no only be usable also look good on the black Leica III.

It is also a nice camera for taking photos.
I like the rangefinder of LTM Leicas very much.

Here a picture showing the Leica III with the Cosina Voitländer viewfinder. The shoe of the viewfinder needed some work to fit into the Leica III accessory shoe.

I was going to mention that the old barnacks do not have any spring in the shoe.
I think the spring action was meant to be found in the finder shoe.
Now, VC finders have a massice, but flat shoe that requires the sprigs to be on the camera.
How did you modified your finder?

That's a beautiful looking rig! The Black CV finder looks great. I would imagine you could simply put sand paper on a nice flat surface and take some material off the bottom. Just remember that the finder will be looser on other cameras - go easy....

The camera and lens set look very nice. If you want to keep the vintage look, choose an old Leica finder. If you favor practicality, go with a modern CV finder.

Really great lens (even without a hood!) -- try shooting with it wide open, and you'll get some really nice effects.

That's a beautiful looking rig! The Black CV finder looks great. I would imagine you could simply put sand paper on a nice flat surface and take some material off the bottom. Just remember that the finder will be looser on other cameras - go easy....

I (with the help of my dad) modified the finder with a milling machine. I reduced the width of the viewfinders shoe carefully by about 0.15 - 0.2 mm so that it has a tight fit even without any springs.

Acutally I have a lens hood for my 73 mm Hektor (in contrast to most of my other lenses) and I will show it at next weekend.

I am very interested to see the images it gives me both wide open and stopped down.
