Due to a completely random and 100% eedjit mistake I've shattered the front glass of the viewfinder. I'm in London, I was thinking Camera City may be able to effect a repair, any other suggestions people?
Regards,
Steve

any camera shop that repairs bessa's can repair that part of the r-d1, but if you really busted the front prism that's going to be an expensive repair - you're looking at around 450$ or the GBP equivalent. most shops just replace the whole RF module in such cases as it's a real pain in the neck to remove, replace, calibrate and re-cement the new prism.

if you only busted the plastic covering that's attached to the top housing then you're lucky and you could probably have it repaired for nothing but the labor cost, it's just a piece of thin plastic.

Got Aperture UK to repair it today with a microscope slide cover, perfecto, these guys are a great little outfit. Done in 2 hours.

I had no end of trouble trying to get an original, the only real option was sending it via Bellamy and all that entails. As for any coating, again, no information at all.
The upshot is it's been done now, time will tell if it's problematic.
Are microscope slides coated for light transmission?

As the slides are built for light transmission it could be presumed that if they are placed in the correct orientation that they are an excellent substitute. I did suggest this to another repair shop but was advised it wasn't the best idea.
They did however suggest that a new glass would need fabricating.
Anyway, it looks ok right now and I'll get the chance to have a go tomorrow, we'll see.
Thanks for the links, quite interesting.
