I just hacked my external Voigtländer viewfinder and I thought maybe this is interesting for some of you guys. I eventually want to use it on my Leica and the problem is, that the viewfinder's mount isn't centered. So it blocks the Leica's Shutterspeed wheel - not cool.

So I decided to center this thing (which fits in the hot shoe of the camera) on the viewfinder. For this, I fastened it with only two screws which is still okay I think. There is some extra plastic on one corner so that it won't fit. I cut it away. I also cut away the other two nuts because otherwise it doesn't fit on any hot shoe.

In order to balance the *thing* I had to fix some duct tape underneath it. Now, it's horizontal, centered and fits on my Leica. In addition, it's also centered on the Ricoh GRD now. It masks the flash, but I don't use it anyway. I love doing this sort of stuff. : )

you should have made a short accessory foot with an off centre accessory shoe on top.
no need to modify anything.

The kind of 'shoe on a shoe' is easily available. Many are made with a flash cable socket to convert the original shoe to a hot shoe. You should not have destroyed such a lovely viewfinder. All you need to do was to post something in RFF and I am sure there would have been plenty of suggestions.
