Viewing glass help

I noticed he mentioned a thickness of 1/16 inch, Chippy earlier mentioned 2.5mm (didn't try to do a conversion on either). Chippy's thickness seems a little too much, the seller above seems a bit too little. But I haven't measured any of mine to know. I don't know that I have ever seen Chippy wrong unless he corrected himself quickly.

But anyway, I think the thickness isn't critical as long as the GG fits properly in the holder, and the ground portion is to the back. If so, you can do it yourself, buy the one above, or from another ebay seller. Am I wrong on that Chippy?

Get some carborondrum grit or valve grinding paste, get someone to cut a few pieces of glass in the right size and make your own groundglass. Just remember to get the sharp edges of the cut glass sanded down.

I've been told that lapidary suppliers can supply silicon carbide, #400 for coarse and #600 for finer grit.

I did that. I used old glass plates as they have the right thickness (1,3 mm) and dimensions for the Voigtländer GG holder. Carborundum #600 grit gave nice fine grain.
