I like to watch movies, but I am not a man to adore or follow artists. Yet, I've always liked Viggo Mortesen for his play and I supposed that he is man with character. Lately I discovered FB as a media and I was gladly surprised that he adores horses. Plus these days - he is a writer! And just yesterday I came upon a picture in his unofficial FB page where he has a Leica in his hands. A film version. So, with his permission ,I repost it. Another dedicated Leica and film use r🙂

Of course! That guy fights with swords, so he shoots on film as well. 😉
(Just kidding! I just have finished a roll on 6x12.)

Why should it matter what a "celebrity" uses?

Well, they are taste shapers and multipliers, so shots of celebrities with film cameras can only help us, even though it may be just posing or a fashion statement on their part.

Dirk, with all due respect, who the hell cares. Poseurs. That's all. They don't keep companies in business. We do. Fashion statement on their part - for sure. Very few celebrities I can group together in the realm and respect of someone like Jeff Bridges, a dedicated Widelux user. He has no need to flaunt, and never did, as his work speaks for itself.

Well, if Viggo is one of us - photography lover, what's wrong with it? Why "who cares" statements? If guy shares interest with us (celebrity or not) I can only see a positive side of it.

From wiki:"Aside from acting, his other artistic pursuits include fine arts, photography, poetry, and music. In 2002, he founded the Perceval Press to publish the works of little-known artists and authors"

You seem to care a bit.

I don't think Viggo is enough of a celebrity to be shaping anything in terms of camera tastes... when the Beatles all had Pentax cameras, perhaps a case could be made for that. I seem to recall Ringo later went for a Nikon though.

I also would not be surprised if Jimmy Stewart didn't inspire a bunch of people to go take a look at long lenses and exaktas.

Surely Mr. Mortensen would be able to "pose" with something a lot more luxurious than a Leica if he wanted to present himself as cool. Buying a Leica for him is like me buying a candy bar.

Viggo seems to be well-entrenched in the arts, which I admire...he has a bit more depth than the usual Hollywood type.

If he enjoys photography, he'll of course be familiar with Leica. I imagine we'd all be shooting film Leicas if we could afford it (which I'm assuming he can). So, if I could afford a pro lab souping, scanning, and wet-printing all my film, I'd be doing it. I can't...so it's digital for me. It's cost vs. reality in my own case.

I suppose this post would make sense if Viggo had photo achievements worth sharing AND incidentally be a celebrity.
Case in point: Linda McCartney (Linda Eastman).

"Photo achievements" (as any ART achievement) is very subjective thing... Very. I would leave achievements for Mr Usain Bolt
