I notice what may be vignetting on scans coming out of my Nikon Coolscan 5000. Anybody have any advice on what to check/calibrate and/or repair?

I bought this scanner last year from an RFF member in the States. Can't for the life of me remember exactly whom. Bought just before moving to Shanghai last year, and with all the tumult of that abortive move didn't have a chance to really test it thoroughly til now, one year later. It appears the vignetting is consistently visible in all shots, so it has to be scanner related.
That wouldn't be the reason it was offered for sale in the first place, would it? Well, let's not get too discouraged and still keep trying to make the world a better place, shall we?!
Moving on to a resolution of the problem: How now to get it fixed? Any ideas?

Jon, I just emailed you about this. Nikon Japan services the Coolscan scanners still. Send it over if you want. The scanner *could* have received a shock in transit which knocked the lens out of alignment.

Took me a few days to get back on this one because of a HDD failure on my Macbook Pro. Coming after the termite attack and typhoon, what a week!
The vignetting is visible on the right side of the scans above.

I had a similar problem once scanning delta 100. Never had that problem again even scanning the same film. I ask Nikon in Italy, who have been friendly but not able to give me explanation. Probably (my guess and suggestion from an italian Nikon forum) for any reason the film is not really plan in the film holder...sorry cannot help more

Try the scientific way:
does it happen with the holder? without it?
does it happen when you turn the neg right to left?
(and most important where?)

I get this when scanning uncut film using the SA-21 strip film adapter. I think the cause is curled film.
Was the sample photo the first or last frame of the strip? The ends of the strip tend to curl more. Also, even if the film looks flat, the heat from the scanner can curl the film if it has remained in the scanner for a while.
I solved this problem by purchasing the FH-3 film strip holder which does a better job of keeping the film flat.
