Does anyone on the forum plan to migrate to Vista for a operating system? Im just now comfortable with XP and to top that I just read where they plan to release another complete new and improved operating system in 2009. Does Vista offer anything for Photographers that Im not aware of? I have had friends say its best to avoid Vista, Is there any general feeling about this? So far it looks like I will be sticking with XP Pro, How about you?

XP has been very reliable so why upgrade just for more eye candy and possible problems, I turn all that off and use the classic desktop anyway. The only thing that looks interesing to me is the ability to use a flash card to increase ram.

The only thing that I can think of that is photography specific is better support for color profiles, but I forget exactly what that feature is...argh. I will look it up, but that's one thing that you might want to research.

it's my OS on my work computer now (I volunteered to be the guinea pig) and it's been fine. I find it has several improved features, but not photo-specific.

Vista!...Heck the comp. i'm using right now is still running Win 98. My wife is the comp. expert in the family, and she's gonna install XP on here soon. We have a Dell in the other room with XP on it. The reason this one has'nt been upgraded to XP before now is she wanted to wait til MS worked out ALL the bugs first. Besides this one has run so good for so long a time I'm afraid to jinx it.:) Besides I was listening to a comp expert on a talk show the other day and he advised to wait until MS came out with the first update (or he called it something like that) before installing Vista.

It would not be a bad idea to wait until the first service pack, which is like a super-update, for Vista before upgrading. That is what we're doing for our labs. For me, it's working fine, and with my usual "wall" of antivirus, regular updates (there haven't actually been that many), and sensible use I've been fine.

I've been doing some research on the new Vista, and have been talking to people who have been users since the beta versions. Most have suggested to wait a few months until it is slight more stablized.
If you are thinking of upgrading to Vista, really consider on upgrading on your computer's hardware too. Memory will be a big issue. I've spoken to a couple of gamers about Vista... they all say that 1GB of ram is almost crucial, if not the minimal. The sound drivers is workable. But not as sophisticated as XP.
So as Kaiyen, at least wait a little while until the first service pack appears.

Oh oh, I must say the new Microsoft Office 2007 is really nice! If you work a decent amount with any of the softwares in there.... I say its definitely worth the change!

I don't plan to get Vista yet. But when I do (in a year or two) It will be a whole new Computer made for Vista...(damn MS,).... maybe I'll go Mac and be done with it. XP and MS Explorer are the ONLY MS software I own. I use Open Office 1.1 for my text and Spreadsheet Software.

I migrated to Mac over a month ago and haven't looked back so Vista is out of the question. If you plan to use Mac for photos you will need to get a spyder though.

My only Windows machine left is my Win 2k server which is going to be converted to Linux next week..after that NO MORE WINDOWS!!!

I'm getting the premium home version of Vista some time this or next month from Dell as a free (well...almost. I have to pay shipping) upgrade for my notebook because I bought it at the end of last year. I'm not sure, though, that I'll install in right away. I don't know if I'll wait until service pack 1 but I'm definitely going to wait until more software for Vista is out and bugfree.
