By chance, I stumbled on an exhibtion called Heights of Observation, The Photographs of Vittorio Sella, inside the Hotel Commonwealth in Boston.
These large format B&W images of the world's greatest mountains taken by a photographer-mountaineer from peaks and glaciers are amazing. I can see why Ansel Adams likened viewing some of these images to a religious experience.

If you are in Boston, don't miss it. The exhibit runs until November 8, 2010. You will not be dissappointed.

Good suggestion ellisson. The gallery runs between the Hotel and the Eastern Standard Restaurant (recommended, great space, also have nice coctails).

Here's a shot of a friend (another M-shooter) in the gallery space with some of the landscapes on left side of image.

as a bonus - the back door of Hunt's photo in Kenmore Square is just down to the left between the hotel and restaurant.

Hi ederek,
Yes, I recognize that your friend is standing right outside the Eastern Standard restaurant at one end of the exhibit. I believe there is a Washburn image or two there as well.

I would have been sorely tempted to buy one or two of those images - good thing it was late at night when I went through the gallery!

Another recommendation for the general area: at the RISD Museum in Providence, RI, the photographs of Linda Conner are quite amazing. She contact-prints 8 x 10 inch negatives, and tones with gold chloride. These are possibly the best prints I've ever seen -- the detail and tonality are jaw-dropping. Closes October 31...if you're in the area, don't miss it!
