Wonderful discovery isn't she? I first heard of her here a couple of years ago. I have seen the movie and bought two books. It is interesting what trouble people have placing her. The two extremes are that she's a genius discovered, or that she was an obsessional nanny with an opportunity and was competent with a TLR and the pictures are more of historical interest than anything else. I am not in that latter camp.

The neat part is that I don't really care if she was a genius or an obsessional nanny. Maybe she was both!!
I absolutely love her eye for composition and what she was able to do with that Rolleiflex. I am thrilled that her work was found.

The photo that shows the kid getting his shoes shined by another kid tells a lot. It was taken in 1954. The sitting kid must be around 74 or 75 by now. You can tell that she captured his expression, character, by the reaction and the reaction of the old guy at the background. The kid must have been a piece of something! Getting his shoes shined at that age? I would have not been for me. There are other shots that I really like. She knew how to get so close to the subject.
