Say hello to my new little friend.

No images yet. I'm off to the lab tomorrow. So far I love this lens. The condition was impeccable, it looked brand new. It was shipped and delivered in good time (thanks David) . I didn't know it needed a adaptor to fit on my camera so I scavenged mine from my 15 Voigtlander (which I didn't even know had an adapter 😱). The frame lines are perfect on the M7 but not so much on the M6. The focus is silky smooth and the aperture is positive and sure. Sorry for the tease but I've been busy shooting and posting on the NikonCafe. I'll post some images up tomorrow or the next day.

So far I'm really impressed with this lens and it's been a pleasure shooting with it for the last couple of days. I read some online test of this lens in which the "expert" said that after 5.6 the resolution went downhill fast. Could be but I like shooting at F8/11 and find the results acceptable. The few times I've shot with the lens wide open have given me sharp, clear and contrast-rich images. So I'm happy.

Thanks. You know, I never put too much stock in what the experts say 😛. I like shooting at F8/11 to get the depth of field I need and secondly, many times I can't stop dow to 5.6 when using ISO 400 film so ... what can I say. For me it's about the composition, lighting, mood of the image and of course the moment. If I have to worry about losing resolution at F8/11, I'll just break down and buy the Leica 28 2.0 😀. But for now I'm feeling that the Voigtlander 28 1.9 is a workable solution to the RangeFinder 28 question.

Thanks for the link. I read through it while waiting for my lens to arrive. I hate to be snippy about people that test lenses but in my experience you really need to evaluate several samples of any given lens to be scientific. And so for the sample he tested I'm sure 5.6 was the sweet spot. For mine I'm liking F8/11. And to tell you the truth, I can tell you right now, I've got a good sample. So like I said, I'm happy with my purchace. Again, thanks David for a terrific lens and your care in packing the lens so carefully and getting it to me in such a timely fashion. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

I'll get some more sample images up tomorrow.

Forget what Puts said then 🙄. FWIW, he does rate the lens very highly.

The link was pointing you to another RFF thread where other 28/1.9 enthusiasts (me included) are sharing photos taken with that lens. I had several samples, and love my current copy. Substituting it with a 28/2.0 ASPH would be a waste of money, IMO. In any case, enjoy.

There is no doubt abut it, the Voigtlander 28 1.9 ASPH is a modern sharp lens optic. And since I was looking for a lens to ride shotgun with my Nikkor 28 1.4 AF D and D3, I'm more than happy. I'm very impressed with its lack of flare and performance and feel. I feel that to get the most out of this lens, I need to start processing my own negs and controlling contrast with pull processing a little more. But for now I'm very pleased with the lens.

I rate the XP2 between 200 and 400, depending on the contrast of the scene. I do notice that this Voigtlander 28 1.9 has plenty of contrast.

The more I use this lens, the better I like it. So far it's performed without fail. It's great when you get a piece of equipment that outdelivers your expectations.

Defo: Thats interesting about the flare. I found just the opposite to be true with the Ultron 28 1.9. So that's kind of strange. Perhaps you can post some images on this thread.

Really enjoyed looking at the photos on this thread. Not sure about your bit of Alberta though - think I'll stay in my valley! But the lens produces some really cracking results, helped by the photographer of course. I'm inspired to
get a 28mm lens now - and I thought I was free of GAS for a bit!

Nice shots back alley. Great sharpness, colour and composition. You're going to love this lens. What body/bodies are you using?
