The Zeiss Ikon metering pattern is pictured below (taken from this thread). I think the Bessa metering pattern is identical. Its weighted slightly to the left so that when you shoot in portrait format the sky does not overly affect the exposure value. In practice it works fine.

Does this confuse you with the exposure value ?
I have the R2A and had the R-D1 for a long time. No confusion. The only potential confusion I see would come from doing portrait orientation shots with your right hand down. When you do that outdoors, the meter sees mostly sky. Otherwise, the pattern pretty consistently avoids reading off sky.

I'm not sure I have seen the ZI pattern before. My take is that the Bessa pattern may be more clearly towards the bottom left, but they may very well be identical for all practical purposes.
