Hi!
I just bought a nice Ultron 35mm 1.7 in Screw mount, but i dont quite understand how to mount filters to it. I have a couple of 40.5mm filters i used on my Canon 35/2 and Jupiter 8. In bought a 40.5mm to 39mm filter from ebay but i can't screw it into the the filter thread when the hood is on or off. I'm confused, is my adapter bad? am i doing it wrong?
How do you mount your filters on this lens? I don't want to buy new filters in 39mm as they are very expensive.
Thanks in Advance

40.5 to 39 is step down filer. You need to buy step up filter 39 to 40.5.
39 goes into the lens filter thread and 40.5 takes your cheap filter.
I have 39 and 40.5 filters. They cost same at BH and on eBay.

It's possible that you have an adapter with the wrong thread pitch, I seem to recall that some are .75 and some .50?
Search for 39mm filter thread pitch, and I think you'll find an answer for your lens.
