Why does the Voigtlander 21/4 have the f stops reversed? After 50 years with Leitz or Nippon Kogaku lenses, as much as I like the results I simply cannot get used to the Cosina 21/4 f stop reversal.

Strange, neither my 21/4 LTM or my 50/2.5 are reversed....same as my Leitz lenses
I can't find a photo on google with the f stops reversed either

I dug around in some old photos just to confirm but both the 21 4.0 LTM and the M-mount version have the stops in the same direction as Leica lenses. Maximum on the far left, turning the aperture ring left to right till the minimum on the far right. Nikkor's have the maximum on the far right turning the aperture ring right to left for the minimum.

Interesting. I don't have photographs but double checked my lenses. Nippon Kogaku 35/3.5, Nippon Kogaku 28/3.5, Leitz Elmar 50/3.5 when set up as the above pictures all have 3.5 to the right and small opens to the left. Just checked my seldom used 90 and see it is arranged the same as the 21/4. Maybe an age thing?

The 21mm’s f stops are in the same sequence as Leica’s M lenses. Leica’s thread mount lenses are not consistent. The 21 has the same setup as my pre-war Summar. The 35 and 90 Elmars go the other - Nikon - way. I never realized, or thought about this until your thread prompted me to look.
