Thought I'd give it a try. Any experiences with this lens?

It is a very good lens, Colyn. There really is no alternative in the same price range. For a lens that I use 2% of the time, I am very happy with it.

That makes me feel better about spending almost $300 for a new one on ebay this evening.

If it is anything like my 15mm f/4.5 then it should be a fine lens.

I have no experience with the 15mm heliar, but the photos I have seen with it look very nice. Here is a sample with the 21mm skopar.

Looks good to me.

I wanted the 21 but couldn't justify the cost of the Leica 21mm f/3.4 SA lens so I decided to go with the Voigtlander.

Hopefully I'll have it in hand before next weekend so I can give it a test run at Scarbourgh Faire.

Another note about this lens is it's the same glass and formula of the new 21 that's coming out later this summer with the "M" mount.

Stunning performer for the money.

The new 21/2.8 from Zeiss is tempting. But for a focal length I do not use a lot, I do not think I can justify the cost.

do you mean the slower 21 ray, the 4.5 (?) i think it is.
the 2.8 has been around for a bit now.

i'm hoping to get the 21/2.8 next.
i thought about the cv 21 but think it would be nice to stick with all zm lenses if i could.

Is this the lens that was discontinued and replaced by one that's RF coupled? Or is that the 25mm?

I've been interested on a 21mm lens, but I really wouldn't use it a lot.

That is indeed the 25 - the old 21 is coupled. There is a new M mount 21, but I don't know if the old one is going to be discontinued - I hope not.

Oh, and I love the CV 21 - I find it far more useful than the 15 (though that's a lot of fun), and it's sharp and contrasty - it really is a stunner for the money.

Colyn:

I only got mine because Canon never made one in LTM (their 19 is way outa' my ballpark), but now I like it. It just doesn't have the nostalga appeal to me that the old Canon stuff does. I've toyed w/ the idea of a 15 Heliar too, but don't think I'd use it that much.

Just a swell little lens and good value for the money. Tried some informal architecture shoots the other day and with a little perspective correction in PS it will do nicely.

I think Ray nailed my response right away. The CV 21/4 is a very good lens, at a great price, and for the amount of time that I use it a bargain. I did think about getting the ZI 2.8, but spending that much money to replace something I already have and like didn't seem to make sense to me, and it is only 1 stop more of speed. I also won't replace my LTM 21 with the new M version, no need. I have captured some stunning shots of my knuckles with this lens, you may consider getting the accessory hood which will prevent that.

The CV 21 is a very sharp lens and for the money is no brainer.
My S has one stick in all the time.

BTW--what is the difference between a 15/21 field of view and that of an X-pan? I've always wondered and just thought I'd ask here/ now.

the xpan has the wideness of a 24mm lens but the height of a 45mm lens. Its all a little weird but i sometimes find that with the xpan, i get enough width but not enough height, esp for portraits.

It's a shame Canon gear is priced so high but then that is what happens when people buy to set on a shelf..

I have the 15mm and like it a lot so I decided to give the 21 a shot. Hopefully it will appeal to me also.
