Voigtlander 25/.95 modified to NEX on Auction

I'm seriously considering buying this lens. I enjoy shooting primarily square these days, and this lens would give me a pretty close equivalent on NEX to a 80mm f2.8 on a Hasselblad, and shooting square eliminates the vignetting issue. Plus, since the NEX crops to around 1.9x for video, this lens could be used for that as well. Hmm....

Man, I'm having a hard time justifying the price for a lens I'd only use in square format. My fear is that Voigtlander will make an equivalent lens for NEX, and they the one on ebay would be rendered considerably less valuable. Hmm...

Maybe a 37.5mm f1 is in order for the NEX? I always found it a shame that Voigtlaender doesn't make lenses for the zillions of APS-S cams out there. How I would love a compact 18, 28 and 60mm combo... (28, 42 and 90mm equivalent). Make them Nikon mount, they would fit my D200 as well as my NEX-3.

The thought of sharp, compact CV lenses for the APS-C fomat DOES keep me awake at night... My 40mm SLII in Nikon mount is my favourite lens for FF (in my case film).

Kobayashi-San, are you listening?

You have money to burn ... get the lens.

I don't. I would have to sell a few things. Shooting square makes the NEX nearly a 2x crop factor, and I doubt we'll see an f1-ish lens this wide for NEX, so I may just do it. Really, the size is what I'm concerned about.

Since the 24mm Zeiss from Sony is due, it would probably be prudent to wait, but, again, that'll probably be in the f1.7-f2 range.

I have attached some pix taken with the lens, hand-held wide open at near its minimum focus distance with the IS on, ISO set to 100. You can see what extremely narrow DOF there is with a 0.95 lens. I don't know whether at this reduced size you can see, but in the RAW original of the computer-screen snapshot, individual screen dots are resolved. Obviously, not every situation calls for f: 0.95, but a) it is nice to have and b) with the Oly's image stabilization you really can shoot it if you can see it. At f:2 the DOF is what you would expect of a 25mm lens, and the lens' acuteness/contrast does bump up. But I wouldn't call the lens "soft" wide open.

Guess I should have made this clear above: the test pictures were taken on an Olympus EP-2, not a NEX. Although there is a little vignetting visible on the Oly when the 25/0.95 is wide open, I would expect the vignetting to be worse on a NEX.
