Voigtlander 35mm class or summicron 40mm/2

i think both of them (1.4 for sure) are M mount lens so you don't need an adapter on your M6.
but it will depend on your need
the 2.5 is smaller
the 1.4 is faster

Best to buy an LTM to M mount adapter from a reputed dealer selling CV lenses, then you know it will activate the correct frame lines. I believe most adapters are designed to be used with two different focal length.

I have a user 35/1.7 i've been thinking of parting with. It's optically pristine, bought it off here a few years ago, one of my favorite lenses ever. Downside is that the previous owner tried fixing a wobble issue (which some of the CV lenses have) and couldn't get the front badge/ring off and ended up scarring it up pretty bad, i filled it in with black ink and it's 'ok' looking, it's the ring that says 35/1.7 etc.

I'm only thinking of parting with it for silly reasons, mainly that it's a black lens, and my M2 has an oxblood covering, the black doesn't look as good with the chrome/oxblood as a silver lens.

Also, unless you need the speed, the CV 35/2.5 is amazing. It's about half the size of the 1.7

@Mephiloco: im looking for a black lens too. as my m6 classic is black so. I don't think i need speed as much. I like to enjoy the place im in and then take photo. not rushing spamming film like i do with my dslr haha. So you are thinking of selling it?

Hi, some say the VC 35mm f2.5 is a great lens, for what i´ve seen on the web it´s so...never had one thou.

But the 40mm summicron is quite good also and it´s handsome and small.

There´s no need for 40mm framelines for the cron will show the 50mm ones...then the result will be a looser composition thus more field.

The other great 40mm lens is the nokton which i find better than the cron, also is a full stop faster than it.

I''ll vote for the summicron, smaller and well made. It can be modified to bring up the 35mm frameline so it wouldn't be a problem, also, the 35mm frameline on M6 is actually 38.2mm, one of my friends did an experiment of the VF frameline on all M long time ago. SUMMICRON-C 's color rendering is really good comparing others, it's like the little sister of 7-elements.

Why not consider the voigtlander 40mm f1.4? Check out the bokeh on this shot - its very smooth. Sharp, nice colour, good bokeh. Lovely. And.............and, it makes all of your photo subjects look like this lovely young woman. :^). Seriously its a nice lens and is very impressive.

I recommend the 40/2.0 M-Rokkor. It is a M-mount lens so no adapter required, it takes easier to find 40.5 filters (not the difficult to find and expensive series 5.5 filters as the 40/2.0 Summicron-C), renders similar but is multi-coated and therefore colors will be a little more vivid. Screwmount lenses not only require an adapter but also usually only focus down to 0.9 m, something to consider.

You don`t need to modify the flange of any 40mm lens to bring up the 35 mm frame -lines (these are a better fit to the 40 mm field of view when using any Leica from the M6 or newer) but stick a piece of plastic under the frame line pre-view lever. 🙂

The CV 35/2.5 PII is a very nice lens too if you don`t mind the 2/3 stop loss compared to a f/2.0 lens.

I would go for Voigtlander 40mm but my M6 doesn't have 40mm frame line. As I'm new to leica. and for now only can afford 1 lens. I don't want any problem when i get it :/..

You might give some thought to the Leica 28mm F2.8 Elmarit M. Clean examples of this lens can be purchased for $850-1000 USD.

The Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 Nokton ASPH is another possibility; it sells new for $1200 USD.

If both the above are out of reach at present, Voightlander does make some nice 35mm lenses that are not as fast as the Nokton, as others have already pointed out.

Another lens to consider would be the Leica 50mm F2.8 Elmar M, which goes for around $500-650 in clean condition. While it is not a wide angle lens, it is a very nice optic for the money, if you can live with a 50mm for awhile.
