I would go for Voigtlander 40mm but my M6 doesn't have 40mm frame line. As I'm new to leica. and for now only can afford 1 lens. I don't want any problem when i get it :/..
@Maddoc: can you explain the sticking a piece of plastic under the frame line preview lever? why is that. thank you
The 40mm Voigtlander is designed to pull up the 50mm frame-lines on a Leica M - which of course means a little more ends up in the image than the 50mm frame-lines suggests will be there. This seems not to be a problem because of course all it means at worst is the need for a slight crop of the image. Usually I don't bother as 40mm is so close to 50mm its not really all that noticeable. And for those who use an M8 (I know this is not you) the M8 50mm frame-lines are inaccurate anyway so there is a good amount of educated estimation involved.

I do the same as Gabor when I use my Cron-C on a M body
You can also permanently modify it, which doesn't hurt so much (except when you also use it on a CLE afaik).
I'd go for the 35/2.5 PII (PII is important, the other versions are not as nice mechanically) over the Cron-C. It's way more practical and better (except when you only shoot slide film maybe, it's a good bit more contrasty). the 2/3rds of a stop aren't that bad at all.
I owned both and sold the CV (and the Cron-C will go too) for my Cron 35/2.
If you badly need something wider I'd think about the Ultron f/1.7 I find the shoots taken with it much more pleasing than what I saw from the Noktons. Mechanically it comes with problems as I've heard (doesn't age so good, getting a bit wobbly).

Hello,
I have just acquired a leica m6 .72 classic after months of saving. I'm considering between cv 35mm or summicron 40mm. I do mostly street photo and landscape. Please advise 1 lens cause I can only afford 1 lens at the moment. It's my first leica. So if cv then sc or mc? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Have a nice day.
I used the Nokton 40mm SC. It's really nice. With a small file and two minutes it can be modified for the 35mm frame lines which work very well.
I modified mine. It's very easy you can Google how to do it.

There is two lens i found within my price range:
1. Voigtlander Classic SC 35mm Nokton f/1.4 for £389.
2. Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1 for £535.
Thinking of going for 35mm. can save abit more. Which one you guys think the best for 1 lens setup? cheers

Robert White have the 40mm Nokton for less than that, brand new. If you don't mind the frameline issues, that would be my choice.

I would stay away from 40mm as trying to avoid any issues at the moment
