I've been contemplating a Sony A7-series camera as a digital companion to my M4, and was ogling the images from the 40/1.2. I wonder if there's any advantage at all to getting the native FE version instead of the M? Obviously, if I go with the M version, I could adapt it onto the Sony. Is the adapted M version the same size as the FE? Is there any difference in the glass, etc.?

Thanks
John

With the Zeiss Loxia series of lenses for the FE mount, there was a change in lens formulation (compared to the ZM mount) to work better with the A7 series thick cover glass. I haven't seen if there is a difference with the Voigtlanders. I'd advise looking for lens tests on the web that are aware of the problems of some lenses with the A7 sensors, or going to a dealer and trying both FE and M mount lenses on an A7 while looking closely at corner performance. Good review of an FE mount 40/1.2 here:
