Thanks, Erik! Yours, too. I particularly love the shots you've taken with lots of reflections -- too many in this thread to repost.
On a more poignant note, this thread includes posts early on from Tom A. and Stewart McBride (Sparrow), sadly no longer with us.

That's a lovely shot, Erik. The separation between in-focus and out of focus-is-more distinct, which I would expect from a summicron. It might be good, for comparison's sake, to post a photo taken with the Skopar wide open, so we can see how the little Skopar measures up in that department. Here's one sample:

I am thinking about picking up one of these lenses. How effective is the standard hood? Is it necessary to get the LH-2 hood as well?

The best is the 12550 hood from Leica, made for the Elmar-M. It allows you to use the standard Leica lens caps and does not intrude in the finder.
Usually the Color Skopar comes with a small hood, more a ring, that gives some protection. However, then you'll need the original aluminium CV lens cap, not very nice.
Of course you can use all the other Leica hoods for 50mm and 35mm f/2 lenses too, but these are big, clumsy and expensive.
I have the LH2 hood, but I've never used it in all the sixteen years that I have this lens.

Thanks Eric! I’m pretty sure I have one of those hoods in my “miscellaneous bag”. Or at least the Heliopan version.

I really would like to buy this lens, but I can't find it in the EU.

The Color Skopar 50mm f/2.5 exists also for the Nikon S mount, but under the name "S Skopar 50mm f/2.5". Honestly, it is a better lens than the classic Nikkors 50mm f/2 and f/1.4. The f/2 distorts and the f/1.4 has weak corners. I have no experience with the "Olympic" Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, but in any case the S Skopar is smaller. And a great performer.
