Hi,

I have a Voigtlander 50mm 1.1 with a loose front ring. It does not twist, but there is about 1mm play - as if the internel screws that hold it in place are loose.

This has no effect on the performance of the lens other than being annoying - the hood screws onto the ring, thus exacerbating the problem.

I have seen various threads where users have address similar issues with other CV lenses - has anyone had and resolved this problem themselves or is it a professional repair job?

I am minded to take it to a professional (anyone recommend one in near Leeds. UK?) in any case - but would obviously prefer to understand the nature of the fault first.

Thanks,

James

I don't have the lens any more, but I've owned two of them previously.

I would check if the engraved ring can turn. If it is what holds the loose ring, it may the engraved ring may have become unscrewed. If so, tighten it up. A rubber stopper of the correct size can be used to give you sufficient grip.

Hi Vikko,

The engraved ring (and I take it you mean the front ring with the VOIGTLANDER NOKTO 50mm F1.1 lettering) is attached to the loose front ring - so the gap created by the movement is below this engraved ring. The lens is below this (with two wrench indents) and would appear to be tight - hence I guess no issue of the performance of the lens.

I will post some pictures tonight.

This is an old thread but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and knows how to get to its root cause and fix it. I have the same issue with my 50mm f1.1 which I have just noticed today. And what is more the same issue has also arisen with my 75mm f1.8 Voigtlander. It is beginning to look as if this is endemic to their products. (And I treat my lenses with kid gloves so its not by any means due to harsh treatment.) With the latter lens I have removed the dress ring using a friction tool (there are no slots in the ring) but the problem seems to be further down in the lens as neither tightening the dress ring when reassembling it or tightening the ring that sites below it helps. I cannot tell if the front element is also loose but I think it probably is not in either lens. In any event it is an annoying problem which is bound to get worse. It seems as if an approach must be made by removing the aperture ring and coming in from that area. And it looks as if the problem in both lenses is the front cylinder or "shroud" the end of which contains the filter ring.

I bought a used 50/1.5 Nokton Aspheric for a great price- found the performance changed in pictures with the camera tilted forward. The front group behind the front element was loose. I removed the namering, revealing the ring that held in the front element. Use a rubber ring to remove it. Spanner for the ring underneath, front element out. The problem was the retaining ring underneath- it tightens into a slot using a fine head, I used needle-nosed pliers. The ring must be tightened to go past the metal ridge that surrounds it. It had been tightened flush with it, as would occur of I used standard flat spanner heads. 10 years later- no problems. Have not had a problem with the 50/1.1, 35/1.2 v1, or 35/1.7 Ultron v1.
