Dear All,

Anyone has knowledge or experience with the mentioned lens? I used to have a Voigtlander 75mm/2.5 and it is a good lens that I regret selling. I would like to get a portrait lens to do portrait and still life. Is the 90mm/3.5 better than the 75mm/2.5? :D

Regards,
Peter

Peter,

I can't say if it's any better than the 75mm optically, but I own this lens and it's very sharp and very resistant to flaring. 90-100mm is my favourite focal length for portraits.

Because my Leica CL has frames for 90mm (albeit somewhat small) this lens was a natural match. If focuses smoothly and I've been very pleased with it. I've never owned the 75 so can't give you a direct comparison. There are a few shots in my gallery taken with this lens.

can't compare the 2 but i have the 75/2.5.

it works well - takes good pics.
i like the size & feel of it. i imagine it's the difference of a couple of steps forward between this and the 90. and it's faster if that matters to you.

They roughly have the same closest focusing distance, .9m for the 75 vs 1m for the 90, which means you should be able to get a tighter crop with the 90. The 90 also takes the more common 39mm filters.

I have the 90/3.5, and it's a fine lens. The only problem I have with it is that I'm using it on a 0.6x viewfinder, so the 90mm frames are quite small compared to the 75mm ones. If I were to choose again, I might have gone for the 75mm, for the sheer convenience.

Thank you guys for the information. I think I will get the 90mm APO-Lanthar. I am using R2 and my 'normal' lens is 35mm focal length. In R2, the 35mm and 90mm framelines are together. Thus, it would be convenient for me when I change lens.

Cool. I'm a fan of many CV lenses, but never looked at anything longer than 50mm... until today. It seems like a good lens for the price from what I've seen...

I don't have a ton of stuff with it scanned and posted on Flickr at the moment, but here are some, to at least give you an idea of what it's capable of. I've never understood the appeal of 75mm, although I guess it makes sense if you are primarily a 35mm shooter. I'm a 50mm guy, though, so I need something a little longer, and it works great when you want to get in tight but can't quite get close enough to your subjects.

It is a wonderful lens but somehow I always think of a 75 as a portrait lens and the 90 as a telephoto. But to each their own.
