Apparently one will be an APO-Lanthar 35mm f/2 ASPH, the other an update to their Ultron ASPH 35mm f/2: https://leicarumors.com/2021/02/10/...po-lanthar-35mm-f-2-and-ultron-35mm-f-2.aspx/

What can they do to improve (or maybe cheapen?) the still-newish Ultron ASPH? I think they'll put it in a black or silver barrel similar to the 50/1.5 II, and give it a standard focus knub instead of the controversial stick. I suspect the APO lens will be larger and more expensive, performance in line with their other APO lenses. Good news on both fronts, anyway.

More like mind-reading your credit card digits.
Wish it were a 1,75/90 APO, though. The 90 is a FL they seem to have totally walked away from.

I had the same question. The Ultron is not that old, so I wonder if the changes will be more cosmetic, bringing it in line with the new Nokton as you suggest. But I’m curious to see the lens diagram once it’s released. The 50mm Nokton II was an optical redesign from the V1.
Interesting that Leica is rumored to be putting out an APO 35mm Summicron at some point in the future. I wonder if this Voigtlander lens will beat it to market, rather than come on its heels.

Excited to see the details on this. I love a good 35mm f/2 lens.
Thoughts on APO-Lanthar vs. Ultron rendering? I'm not familiar with the differences between the two lens designs.

Will surely take the air out of that $6999 product intro by Wetzlar. The 50 is indeed puzzling so soon after the redesign.

Was the last 90 they released the 3.5 Lanthar? I wonder if there’s as much of a market for 90s. Maybe they’re working on solidifying their position with well-regarded “standard” lenses first. This is pure speculation, but I feel like they’ve gotten a boost with all the Youtubers making videos about their 35mm and 40mm lenses. It’s possible they’re trying to secure their position with these lenses first?

Man. Crazy. What boundaries will the APO Lanthar push? I already feel that my 35 1.7 VM is pretty much untouchable on film.

When you're pushing 50 or 60 MP sensors (the M10M is essentially there already), every marginal bit matters.
Hmmm, with so many new lenses being made by Voigtlander, I wonder if they will attempt some new cameras as well one day...

The current Ultron 35 is such a good lens, optically it’s as good as my 35lux pre FLE. I just wish they can improve the focusing stick for version ii

It is great that CV is developing and selling such lenses for RF users.

Hard to imagine what they would change on the 35mm Ultron, itself one of their most recent lenses. I suspect there will be an SC version offered, and a couple of different body materials (eg. nickel).

I love my current ultron f2, but if they update the ergos with a tab and a non conical barrel, and maybe an all-black version I'd be pretty damn tempted. If the APO follows the 50mm f2 APO it'll be quite a large lens. The ultron is already optically fantastic.
I love that VC is active with M mount lenses though, I'd love to buy all of them just to support the company. Everything they put out is fantastic and unique.

It's too bad that Voigtlãnder seems to have abandoned the LTM users, especially when an LTM lens will work just as well on an M body with an adaptor. (I have, and use, a number of Barnack Leicas. I could never get on with the size and shape of the M bodies.)

Yeah I don't get too excited about another 35mm/f2 lens. Way too many good ones already on the used market. I still love my Leitz 35mm 4th gen. I would buy a modern 35mm/f2 lens for my IIIF. Better yet, a slow 21/28/35mm LTM lens that was nice and small for my LTM.
