Voigtlander Bessa I--What Film

What film that will allow me to see the exposure number in the red window. New to me Voigtlander Bessa I. Loaded Portra 400 and the numbers are below the window--I couldn't see them so I opened the back. I have XP2 and fortunately the numbers can be seen in the red window. Any idea on what other c41 films I can use in this camera--I can see the numbers in the window.

I also use the XP2, but develop it in black and white chemistry, it's amazing!
I don't shoot much colour, but I have used Agfa Optima and it was fine as well, I'm pretty sure it's not made any longer though...

How old was the Portra?
I read somewhere that since late 2016 Kodak was printing different backing paper for their roll films, to accommodate that problem.

Anything other than Kodak.
I've been meaning to complain very strongly to them after I blew through the first three frames without seeing a single number on a recent roll, but I guess they've already heard complaints from others. The numbers are still there, they're just very faint, and not properly aligned to appear in the red window (you will only see about half the number if you can see it). It's amazing a company that specializes in film could do something so basically stupid.

I read the link above. It is dumb they removed the numbers for the 6x9 cameras that need them. The numbers aren't even faint. You can't see them. What about Fuji for color? I wouldn't mind seeing color out of the camera.

I've also used Fuji Reala in the past, I think it's no longer made either.
But, if that worked, one would think their other films should.

Just loaded a roll of Portra 160. No numbers in the window. There are numbers but not in line with the window.

Crikey, I didn't realise this. I have a Perkeo 2. Is it the same problem?

The Perkeo line uses 6x6 frames, they use a different set of numbers (another row st a different height) than 6x9.
Maybe they removed the set of numbers for 6x9 while the ones of 6x6 are still there?

As I also use C41 film on my folders and a Kobak Medalist (which uses the number "1" for stsrting the film advance counter) I also need to look for alternatives.

It is a shame that Kodak makes there films unuseable for a group of users.

Fuji will work fine. Used several rolls of 400H in one of my red window cameras only a few months ago.

Can someone specify which Kodak films are problematic?

It may be that my film stock in my freezer is a bit dated, but so far I've had no problems with Ektar 100 and Tri-X in either my Bessa II and Zeiss Ikonta 524/2.

The above image shows the problem. I'd hate to lose Tri-X as an option for my 6x9 folders.

In general: Fujifilm's films don't have that problem. You will be fine with them.
They also have the excellent "Easy Loading System" which is a joy to use.
So for other C41 CN films:
Fujifilm Pro 160 NS and Pro 400H. Both excellent films with a very natural colour rendition and the unique 4th layer technology.

For E6:
Fujifilm Provia 100F (outstanding natural colours, extremely flexible), Velvia 50 (unique colours with a bit more intense saturation) and Velvia 100 (higher saturation at more speed).

120 films maybe have different start-positions. Film not properly taped. there are tolerances. Therefor for Widelux 1500 i taped multiple start-positions inside.
