@CameraQuest and other knowledgeable folk: is the optical formula of the conical version of the Heliar 50mm f3.5 Vintage Line the same as the older limited edition collapsible nickel lens of the same name? I used to have the collapsible version, a beautiful lens, but I didn't use it much because it was f3.5, and the collapsible design and infinity lock bugged me a bit. But the Vintage Line version solves the design factors, and I did enjoy its very rounded, organic rendering.

Yes, all the Voigtlander 50/3.5 Heliars have the same optical design.

What may vary with such a long production period is the coatings.

in about 2003 Popular Photography rated it the sharpest lens they had ever tested.

Even so, Fred Miranda found the newly introduced Voigtlander 50/3.5 APO Lanthar to be far sharper with the same rendering as the previous 50/3.5 Heliar.

@CameraQuest Thank you for the information! I didn't know that this new APO Lanthar existed, either. The Type II looks the more attractive option to me, with close focus and very light weight. If it has the same rendering as the Heliar, it will be a superb lens.
