Voigtlander R2M R3M Eye Candy

Nice picture, thafred. The bokeh on the Heliar looks a litle bit more "swirly" than on the Cron. I love that!

I can see strange artifacts (flare?) on two of the published pictures: on the last picture of my previous post, middle-right, and on the following picture, bottom-left.

It is interesting to note that all the pictures published were taken full-open (f/2.0 or f/2.5), not bad...

The second example looks like flare, but due to the heavy direct light sources that's not unexpected - depending the circumstances of course. In the first sample, it looks like some timber or column carrying the roof in the background: watch the shape of the area.

Not only the Lens design is that of the Summicron Collapsible but also the bokeh looks very similar...IMHO.

The collapsible 'Cron was a 7-element 6-group double Gauss construction, which is vastly different from the Heliar's 5-element 3-group design.

Hi Mazurka,

I did mean the design of the lens barrel/mount not the optical design, I guess I should better explain my statements 😉
thanks for making this clear!

I´m really looking forward to see what this 5-element design does at f/2...the pictures look like a lot of character...very curious about this small glass especialy since I love the ergonomics of the Summicron and the Heliar should have similar "feel" of operation.

Call this my prejudice. I have tried the R2M and the R2A extensively before buying. The build quality of the M is much more refined and the shutter speed is crispier yet quieter.

It is worth your extra money.

As for the collapsible Heliar, it is simply magnificent.

I couldn't agree more.
