...let's also add to the list the 35 Summicron ASPH non-APO. All of them 20+ year-old designs mildly adjusted for digital and overpriced to the stratosphere.

They've ceded the market for rationally priced Barnack-sized lenses to others and happily, Cosina is running with it.

Just replaced my 50/1.4 pre-ASPH with Voigtlander’s 50/2 ASPH APO. Came out ahead financially, get images I prefer, and won’t miss the stop off the aperture. I’ve got money leftover I could buy a Zeiss ZM 50/1.5 if I wanted some “character” and still have money leftover.

It's not out yet, but they'll probably officially announce it in the next day or two. Then you can preorder it, and it looks like it will be delivered to dealers in May.

52mm x 36mm 190g, vs Leica Asph 28mm one stop slower a tiny 15g lighter 52mm x 30.7mm, 5.3mm shorter. VC have done a stellar job on getting this lens the size and weight it is.

Love it that CV seems to be expanding it's range with compact, respectable speed (f2.0-f2.8) and tabbed lens designs.

I've got the original Ultron 28mm f2.0 M mount which is a fine performer so can't justify the upgrade.

Cosina, if you are listening; I'd like a compact f2.0 24mm or 25mm please (the Zeiss 25mm M mounts are too big or slow - and those third stop click stops!! 🙁 ). In LTM a dream, but even better!

I went with daughters to Manhattan once and took Rokkor 40/2 and Orion 28/6 lenses.
Used 28 during day and 40 inside. I liked this combo.
Now I have 35 1.4 II Nokton and this new lens is awesome to get back to this light and compact travel combo, but with better build and handling. This new lens might work on my Canon RP as well.

I’ve been hoping for a 28/3.5 re-release, but this is really a nice surprise. I’d like to see the images from this new formulation. Hopefully it’s poppy like it’s 35/2 relative.

I was hoping for the same. I've been looking for a 28/3.5 for a while. Maybe this will lower the price on them a bit.

Assuming the IQ is there, Cosina really proposes great lenses.
My only serious complaint is the lack of any indication when you lose RF connection at 0.7m.

Is there no 'bump' in the focus movement, like with old Nikkor lenses (the bump is nice.)

In truth I'd forgotten my 21/3.4 Super Angulon doesn't have a bump, it's nice to have one but personally I'm either focussing through the rangefinder or reading focus distance/scale off the lens.

I was about to buy the new 35 f/2 lens - I was in the final stages of indecision vs the little f/1.4 instead - but now this has arrived and I'm tempted by this one now.

Tough decision. Having bought the v. 1 35/2 Ultron Classic last year, I can say w/out hesitation that it is a fantastic lens. I’m interested in whether or how the rumored new 28/2.0 improves on the previous version, which I have but have not shot that much. It would be wonderful it the new 28/2.0 was so much better optically so that I could safely forget about getting a Leica Q.
