The new Version II 35mm f2 has the same optics as version 1 - which was just tested by Sean Reid as being sharper than the illustrious Leica Summicron Aspheric!
The new lens barrel is all brass, so it will have beautiful brassing. The large focusing tab makes focusing quick and easy. Its small and light at 6 oz with a 39mm filter thread and close RF focusing of .7 meter. Focusing scale is now in both feet and meters - V1 was meters only.
Either version $849 Black Silver
The black chrome Canadian M4 was once owned by famous New Yawker photographer, designer, and Lady about Town - no less than RFF's own Helen Hill!

Well, Stephen, you've got me convinced. Been meaning to upgrade a couple of lenses, now I've just got to work out the budgetary details.

I had the first version with the focus-pin. I loved the image quality but hated the ergonomics and design, so I sold it after some time. Very sad. This version is, what I was waiting for. I will buy it as soon as it is available in silver.

The staples of a RF being 35 and 50, the Leica non-APO Summicrons were introduced in 1996 (tweaked in 2019) and 1979, respectively. The 90 and 75 Summicrons date from 1998 and 2005, respectively. The Summiluxi aren't all that recent either (2010 and 2004, respectively). Film era glass. Even the latest 28 Elmarit and Summicron are little more than recalibrated older designs. In the meantime, the Summarit line along with the 18 and 24 SEMs were nixed.
Between reintroduced old classics and $9000-12,000 APOs, there really isn't anything new in between.

Torn between this and my 35/1.4 Nokton II which turned out to be very satisfying.
Looking forward to the 28mm release...finger crossed.

Thanks for the hint. I had a mail-notification configured at one dealer, but haven't received it, yet. But it seems also to be available here in Germany already. Ordering right now...

A matching silver hood would be sweet on a silver lens. Just saying. Back in the day when there were tourists about, a fellow was strolling with an M10P Safari and a silver 28 Summilux and a silver hood. Gorgeous kit.

Okay, I thought, you mean the lens... If properly coated black on the inside, this could look nice indeed.
But when I had the V1 of that lens I felt no need to have a hood, it was already extremely good without. And in that case, I prefer the smaller footprint.
Besides that, I happily pay the price for the lens. But the price for the hood (when new) is just ridiculous...
